I used to love the original Mario Brothers game on our Nintendo. It was one of the only ones I would play. Although my 7-year-old cousin, I am sure, has no idea about the original he wanted a Mario cake for his birthday. His original cake he showed my uncle he wanted was one that had Bowser’s castle sitting on top of a globe. Ok, so I know I am good but really?!? Once we got him to scale down his ideas a little bit I think he got everything he wanted.

This cake was full of details and they all turned out exactly as I wanted. I think this is another reason this cake has turned out to be one of my favorites!

My aunt gave me a few plastic character they had found to put on the cake, other than that I did everything else.

Ryan wanted to make the castle spin, but unfortunately that was a bit of an afterthought and he didn’t have the time to figure it out. But watch out next year Parker, I am sure the big dorky engineer Ryan will figure it out by then!

Happy Birthday wild man, hope you had a great day!

That is exactly what I have been. I didn’t have any cakes for a little while and I have completely slacked on posting the ones that I have done recently. So, here they are ALL in one big post!

This cake might as well be called Death By chocolate! It was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, then there was the ganache on top with the chocolate swirlies. Add strawberries and this cake= Awesome!

The next cake was one for my Grandma’s birthday. She likes pink and flowers so that’s what I gave her…

It was time for a girls night out, and what better way to celebrate than with a Bachelorette party! Kasey is getting married, in just about 3 weeks now! This was her cake.

Then it was my sister-in-laws birthday. She called and asked me to make her a cake with high heels and wristlets. Those were her only requests. She always leaves everything up to me, well except for that ice cream cake she keeps asking for!

Now I have ONE more cake to share, but I am going to save it for its own post. It was one of my favorites
So, you have that to look forward to!

So, I have been a complete slacker and haven’t update the blog since before the new year. Things got kinda crazy and I just simply forgot! I have made a few cakes lately.
This one was for a bachelorette party. I found that I didn’t take one, not one, really good picture of it. You see, I was working 3 nights in a row and they were calling for snow so I work feverishly to finish this cake in between work nights. I got it done and dropped it off to Stacy at work, but forgot to take pictures….BOO! Can’t cry over spilled milk right!!

On Wednesday night I decided to go on a baking spree. What did I make??? Well I started out baking the cakes I had to decorate on Saturday, then…..
I made cupcakes for Julie’s birthday

Then cookies…..

Then MORE cookies…

Then Brooke came over and showed me how to make bourbon balls….

Any finally, while we were making bourbon balls I also made some homemade carmels, just like my Mammaw used to do!

And there is my baking spree, in a nutshell!

I learned one thing about having three cakes in one weekend (besides being totally exhausted!) The more cakes you make, the less pictures you take. My first cake I took pictures through the entire process. By the time I got to Snoopy, he only got pictures when he was done!

This Snoopy cake was for Taylor, Ryan’s cousin. It was a surprise to her what kind of cake I was making for her. I think she really liked it! It was crooked which just absolutely irritated me, but turned out cute. I think Snoopy was a success!!

The other cake I had a couple fo weeks ago was for Ayden, he was turning 1! Sesame Street was the theme of his party. These are the cakes I love to do! My mom says I do cakes she would never touch or even consider for that matter! I was excited…

I began to shape my characters….

And I think it turned out adorable, although wait a minute…Why does Elmo look funny?? Something I can’t put my finger on!

It only took me a day to figure it out. I also had to turn around and go back home to fix him before I delivered it to Krista. What was missing????

HIS NOSE!!! Geez, that was frustrating!
Glad I figured it out! Happy birthday Ayden, I hope you had as much fun as I did making your cake.

Well, last weekend I was really busy…I had three different cakes to make. Got it all done (with some help from mom!) and took lots of pictures but I have been soo busy with the Holiday festivities haven’t had time to post pics. So, I will start with the first cake I made for Katie’s grandma’s 80th birthday.

This is the kind of cake my mom likes to make, traditional. She likes making roses and decorating cakes with them!!!

I bribed her with dinner to help me and that she did. She did dishes and mixed up icing colors for me as I decorated. It made things go much smoother and faster. Thanks again Momma!!

My pal shutterboo came over for dinner tonight. I made homemade beef and noodles, but the most important thing on the menu was dessert! Thanks to Boo I have been looking through many new food blogs. I came across Bakerella and found a recipe for Bourbon Sweet Potato Cupcakes as I was browsing her site. I had to make them. After all us Southern women do love our bourbon, right? I made the pecans for the top first.

Boy were they delicious. I ate taste tested about 4 or 5 before Boo got here. Then off to the cupcakes….

They smelled super yummy delicious when they came out of the oven! It was all we could do to keep out of them before dinner! After we devoured our dinner we made the icing and glaze for the cupcakes. That pan below of brown bubbly goodness is the beginning of the bourbon glaze. Umm, I believe I am making my mouth water, excuse me while I got eat another….

Here is our finished product!!

Now for the moment of truth…the TASTE TEST!! Mmmm, I think this is the best part of baking goodies. So Boo, what’s the verdict?

It’s a winner!!! Thank you Bakerella for sharing such an amazing recipe!!! One I am sure to use over and over again.
